An autism charity has launched a new fundraising appeal which shows how a relatively small donation can make a massive difference in the life of an autistic young person with complex needs.
The young people who live and learn at Berkshire-based education and residential care charity Prior’s Court need specialist equipment to be empowered to live a fulfilling and enjoyable life.
However, local authority funding for their placements at the charity does not always stretch to cover this kind of equipment.
So Prior’s Court’s autism experts have compiled a list of relatively small expense items that will have a huge benefit to the autistic young people they support every day which then makes up the Big Little Things appeal.
Items such as wobble stools, pick plates, adapted cutlery and rocker chairs will:
- help aid anxieties
- provide sensory benefits
- help to regulate
Overall, they will make an autistic young person’s day a bit more manageable and support the learning of skills that they can use throughout their life.

“Equally, we know that there are such little things that can make such a big difference to the life of autistic young people – and that’s what this new appeal is all about.

For example, a rocker stool allowing a young person to stay alert and keep attention for longer benefits their classroom learning which will have lifelong positive outcomes.
