THE Big Give has opened charity applications for a new environmentally focused match funding campaign in partnership with the Environmental Funders Network.
The Green Match Fund is a match funding campaign for charities working on environmental issues as part of their core mission. All public donations made to participating charities via theBigGive.org.uk during the week of the campaign (22-29 April) will be matched up to a specific amount.
Each participating charity will be awarded a ring-fenced amount of match funding which will be used to match public donations – either £2,500, £10,000 or £25,000. Unlike some of the Big Give’s other campaigns (e.g. Christmas Challenge), all the match funding is provided by Big Give Champions, i.e. charities do not need to secure their own pledges for the campaign. Charities are also able to use the campaign to raise unrestricted funds.
Match funding is being provided by The Big Give’s Champions which include The Reed Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation and several other philanthropists and funders. (Philanthropists or funders who are interested in becoming a Champion can contact the Big Give).
Alex Day, Director of the Big Give stated:
“We’re delighted to be working with our partner, Environmental Funders Network, to run this new campaign. Our experience in 2020 demonstrated how powerful digital match funding campaigns could be in these challenging times. Match funding is a proven way to incentivize more people to give and for people to give more. This year is a critical year for the environment with key milestones such as COP26. We aim to help raise much-needed funds for environmental causes and help shine a light on these vital issues.”
