Adopt-A-Child: Living Water in Guatemala

OUR Adopt-A-Child teams on the ground in Guatemala and Albania are always looking for ways to help the communities where we work and have feeding programmes.

The programmes themselves help the children and vulnerable adults with food parcels and basic medical and dental care, but there are always other needs within the community that we can help to address through our Projects work. We have written before about the Blessing Field Project in the mountains of Guatemala, growing crops and rearing cattle and hens to benefit the whole community.

Another project that followed on from the Blessing Field, and which is bringing great benefit to families and communities, is the provision of wells for clean water for drinking, and for irrigation of crops. It also fits in well with the charity’s full name of ‘Living Water Adopt-A-Child’.

Community well

The last couple of years has seen drought conditions in many parts of Guatemala and accessing clean water has become more and more difficult, let alone having enough to water crops. In collaboration with a partner ministry that drill wells in Guatemala, we started at the beginning of 2020 with a well at our own ministry centre at Chixocol, in order to provide enough water for our programme there and to irrigate what we were trying to grow on the Blessing Field. This was soon followed by a second well in the town of Zacualpa and both of these wells are available for community use as well as serving our own ministry needs.

Our most recent collaborative project with ‘Asociación Pozos Agua Viva’ has resulted in another community being blessed with a well for their village.  We are now actively looking for other individuals and communities to work with over the coming months to bless them with this ‘Living Water’.

If you would like to be involved with this very worthwhile venture, one of our Alternative Christmas Gifts this year is contributing towards helping us to drill more wells and provide filtration systems for the communities we serve. Being able to access safe drinking water and provide irrigation systems for crops makes a huge difference to these communities in Guatemala.
