£50k awarded to create a Platinum Jubilee Legacy across disability communities

UNITED Response, is one of 93 organisations across the country to be awarded funding from the Platinum Jubilee Fund, which has been launched by The National Lottery Community Fund to celebrate 70 years of Her Majesty The Queen’s reign, by providing impactful grants to projects across the UK that are helping to bring communities together.

United Response provides person-centred support to around 3,000 adults and young people with learning disabilities, mental health needs or physical disabilities – including some of the most vulnerable people in our society. United Response’s vision is a society of equal rights and access where disabled people have the opportunity to live the lives they want to lead.

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the national disability charity will host six jubilee celebration events at their diverse services in Devon, Richmond, Kent, York, Easingwold and North Tyneside. Each event will be tailored to encourage the people they support and their communities to celebrate this significant milestone in their shared history.

Activities will launch in June 2022 with a range of celebrations across the country but also has a long term impact as the funding will support longer-term opportunities open to everyone in the community, including Memory Café sessions offering people the chance to share experiences and skills over twelve months.

Maxine Spry, Grant Fundraiser at United Response, said:

“The impact of coronavirus and lockdowns has reinforced just how essential it is that the people we support are able to get out and involved with their communities. The Jubilee celebrations are an exciting opportunity for us to celebrate and create a lasting legacy with the communities we work along.

“The long term ambition is to ensure the incredible people with disabilities that we support are actively engaged in the life of their community.”

Blondel Cluff CBE, Chair of The National Lottery Community Fund, said:

“This Platinum Jubilee year is a special moment for the nation and, thanks to National Lottery players, many more people will have the opportunity to come together and celebrate. Charities and good causes we support will help capture community spirit and pride during this historic, celebratory year, enabling people to prosper and thrive in 2022 and beyond.”
